Turning Understanding Into Clear Answers
A child may recognise a Science topic yet struggle when an exam question presents it in an unfamiliar situation. Another may know the explanation but leave out the connection that makes an answer complete. These are different learning gaps, and they need different kinds of help.
Our Primary Science tuition in Ang Mo Kio helps P5 and P6 students work through both. We connect classroom concepts to everyday observations, practise applying them to evidence, and guide students to explain their reasoning rather than simply recall a keyword.

Common learning gaps
When Knowing the Topic Is Not Enough
- Recalling facts but finding it hard to apply them to a new situation
- Writing a short answer without explaining why something happens
- Confusing related ideas, such as heat and temperature
- Overlooking evidence in a diagram, table or experiment
- Using memorised phrases that do not answer the actual question
We use students' answers to identify whether the difficulty lies in the concept, the interpretation or the explanation, then focus practice on that gap.
Our approach
Observe, Reason and Explain
- Make concepts meaningful. Familiar examples help students understand what a scientific idea describes, not just its definition.
- Read the evidence. Students learn to look carefully at experimental conditions, diagrams and results before deciding on an explanation.
- Connect cause and effect. We practise linking a change to the relevant concept and the observed outcome.
- Review answers together. Students see which part of an explanation is missing and how to make it precise.
PSLE answering techniques
Open-Ended Answers That Show the Reasoning
A strong open-ended answer addresses the question, identifies the relevant science and links it to the situation described. Keywords help only when they form part of a correct explanation.
Students practise explaining observations, comparing outcomes and supporting conclusions with evidence. We also work on reading question requirements carefully and checking that each part has been answered.

P5 Science Tuition
We strengthen understanding and build the habit of explaining answers in full. Students learn to interpret unfamiliar questions without losing sight of the underlying concept. Our P5 Science preparation guide offers further advice for parents.

Mr Ken Lim has taught Mathematics and Science since 2010. Small-group lessons give him space to hear students' reasoning, check their answers and correct misunderstandings during class.

Does tuition focus only on memorising keywords?
